The Ladies European Tour stopped off in Holland for the Deloitte Ladies Open 2013 and this year was held at the brand new International Course, just outside Amsterdam. Another first was that VPAR Live Scoring was used at the event. Having previously been trusted on the Men’s European Tour at pro-ams in Wales, Scotland, HSBC Abu Dhabi as well as various US events including the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill; this was the first Ladies professional 3-day event to benefit from the system.
In previous years radios were used to relay scores back to the clubhouse which was slow and cumbersome. This year volunteer walking scorers with each group had an easy to use handheld scorepads allowing players to have real-time scores on the course so they knew where the stood on the leaderboard at that exact moment in time.
VPAR was a fantastic enhancement for the event organisers TIG Sports but also for the spectators in the clubhouse, on the course and in corporate hospitality. 22 large TV screens based around the course and hospitality venues, allowed them to follow the exciting live action as players rose and fell on the leaderboard. Fans around the World were also able to follow online via the dedicated VPAR webpage, and the scores were also fed into the main LET website.
Competition over the 3 days was fierce and local favourite Christel Boeljon faulted at the 12th in the final round scoring a triple bogey 7 to fall out of contention as leaderboard pressure started to mount. The 17 year old, Charley Hull, from England, recorded her 4th second place finish in as many events, and moved to the top of the 2013 order of merit. However it was fellow Brit Holly Clyburn who clinched victory coming from behind in the final round with some scintillating golf.
“We have used other live scoring systems in previous years, but VPAR was without doubt the best and the easiest system to use” TIG Sports, Promoters and hosts of the Deloitte Ladies Open 2013.
