On 31st July, the sporting media descended on Stoke Park for the launch of VPAR Live Golf Scoring’s new and exciting iPhone Application. Nestled in 300 acres of Buckinghamshire parkland estate, Stoke Park is a stunning venue and provided a great test for the players. There were 5 teams on the day competing for the prestigious VPAR Cup with each team representing their chosen charity and the winner receiving a donation – so all was to play for.
Using VPAR ‘s interactive technology to record all the action as it unfolds, the App tracks how you and fellow competitors are performing across the course, putting the very latest game information at your fingertips and keeping the adrenaline coursing. Plus, GPS capability tells you the layout of each hole and exactly how far you have to the pin, helping you to decide which club to take and what shot to play.
The ‘Bobby Moore Fund’ team took the early initiative with the fine drizzle that descended, failing to dampen their early hot streak. The other teams could only watch the live leaderboard on their smart phones as the ‘Bobby Moore Fund’ team’s lead grew, but a strong finish to the front nine saw the ‘Vipingo Village Fund’ team – including ITV’s Zoe Hardman, Richard Copeman (Daily Mail) and Paul Higham (Sky Sports) - drawing neck and neck at the half way stage. Julian Sykes, VPAR’s Founding Partner, set the early pace in the individual competition with a stunning net -4 on the front nine, but all was to change as they approached the business end.
As the sun made an appearance on the back nine, so the ‘CoppaFeel & Macmillan’ team made their surge up the leaderboard as the other teams floundered slightly under the pressure. This was in no small thanks to Graeme Hamlett (Today’s Golfer) who shot a superb gross 67 which eventually won him the individual prize.
A crowd gathered on the 18th, as it all came down to the final few shots, to see if ‘Vipingo Village Fund’ could get the points necessary to beat ‘CoopaFeel Macmillan’. However the nerves got the better of them, succumbing to leaderboard pressure, and the ‘CoppaFeel Macmillan’ team won the inaugural VPAR Cup!
