The 2014 Kiawah Island Friendship Cup proved to be yet another great year for this outstanding event. Kicking off the spring season, the pairs amateur tournament featured a better ball format on both the Gary Player designed, Cougar Point and world famous Ocean Course. Deemed “Golf’s Fifth Major,” the event featured a thrilling competition.
Now in the fourth year partnering with the tournament, VPAR Live Golf Scoring provided the official scoring over both days. As teams scattered over the two scenic courses, players frequently checked their position on the leaderboards through their scorepads, closely monitoring their competition. Family and friends also followed along remotely online and in the clubhouse, as the scores rolled in.
Day one proved to be very challenging with heavy wind and rain, especially for those on the Ocean Course. However, the field of 92 teams prevailed through the tough conditions leading to a hotly anticipated final day. Set to beautiful spring sunshine, a local father-son pairing were able to secure the trophy with an amazing score of 16 under par.
Now in its 8th year, thousands of golfers from around the country have taken part in what has become one of the more exciting amateur tournaments in the United States. Contested on world famous courses, the Friendship Cup provides an unforgettable golf experience.
