For 3 days in August, the stunning Waterville Golf Course, Ireland and Carr Golf hosted the 25th World Father and Sons Invitational. Golf at Waterville is a mystical experience – the beauty of classic links land, surrounded by the sea, yet forever challenged and shaped by the elements. Over 100 years old, Waterville is rated among the top 5 courses in Ireland and the top 20 links courses in the world. The weather over the three days stayed bright apart from one huge thunderstorm on the Friday morning, with some players ‘unable’ to show up for their tee off time.
Whether teeing off on the final day in the plate competition or fighting it out for the title, VPAR added great excitement and tension for all the golfers involved. The players on the courses were constantly up-to-date using the VPAR scorepads as well as providing a nervous waiting time in the clubhouse as they watched the TV leaderboards.
The big winners of the week were team Carroll who fought off stiff competition from the pairings of Team Prince and the Irish pairing of Foley to win the main event. They held their nerve and didn’t succumb to leaderboard pressure after being in the top three from the word go.
Overall the tournament was a spectacle to behold with some high quality golf played in the backdrop of some of Ireland’s most stunning scenery.
