The expression “never meet your heroes” is one this blogger has always failed to agree with and it appears in good company. Earlier this year Michelle Wie met-up with her golfing hero Tiger Woods at one of the Tiger Woods Foundation Clinics. Wie said of the meet-up, ‘it was really cool to meet up with him and hear him talk’.
The pair have a lot in common. Beginning as child prodigies, they both became alumni of Stanford University. They belong to the #nikefam and (rather unfortunately) both are desperately looking to re-capture the form that made them Major winners. In a recent poll by Sports Illustrated, when asked whether it would be Woods or Wie to win next, 77% voted for Wie. It makes me wonder whether this is a strong-backing of Wie’s talent or merely a sad nod towards Tiger’s slump.
Much to my chagrin, it’s been well publicized that Wie has been off-form of late, but she is doing what all great champions do. She is putting in the practice and we love the #drillsbyWiezy. Tweets like this one shows she is looking at the positives and focused on improving her game, which brings us full circle to a quote by her own hero, Tiger Woods.
“Winning is not always the barometer of getting better.”
Although, this guy would sure like to see some improvement.
Moving past the doom and gloom brings us to this month’s sneaker update, which I know you have all been eagerly awaiting. We bring you the Nike Flyknit Air Force 1’s. Enjoy.
