While all eyes were on Dustin Johnson, the USGA and the questionable handlings of the U.S. Open, I was more interested in how Jason Dufner was performing.
By the conclusion of the 116th U.S. Open Championship Dufner had secured himself his 6th career top 10 in a major championship at 2-over 282. Adding this year’s results into the mix, Dufner will now have arrived with top 20s in three of his last four U.S. Open appearances.
That’s not to say there weren’t mishaps along the way. In what was one of the unluckiest breaks of the tournament, Dufner almost sunk a pitch before he got slapped hard by the realities of Oakmont’s greens.
Oakmont’s grounds men clearly believe a tough break is a dish best served cold.
I was happy to see Dufner perform so well, and even more shocked at his fashion choices. He was spotted in a very bold golf pant.
They come from his new partnership with Vineyard Vines (a personal favorite of mine), and can be purchased for a mere $125. Golf fans feedback was conflicting, but I’m going to go ahead and support my Dufner and give them the seal of approval.
Although I’m unsure of where else you could get away with wearing them.
As an additional part of his apparel deal with Vineyard Vines, Dufner recorded some golf tip videos. Watch this one as he shows how sometimes you’ve got to skip across the water instead of avoiding it entirely.
If only we could all hit a shot like that.
The past several months have marked a great deal of improvement for Dufner. At the end of 2015 he was ranked 125th in the world, and as of the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational he places 54th.
With a continuously busy 2016, I expect Jason to continue to move down the rankings.
