Michelle Wie and the Price of Gold

In October 2009, Michelle Wie accompanied fellow golfers Padraig Harrington, Matteo Manassero and Suzann Petterson to present the case for including golf at the next Summer Olympics. Despite large resistance from some commentators, they were successful – it was seen as a huge achievement towards the worldwide legacy of the sport. High-5’s all-round.

Fast forward 6 years and following the withdrawal of the top-4 ranked men’s golfers and a further 15 eligible golfers dropping out, the sports showcase is being labelled a major embarrassment. But what may be more disappointing in Wiezy’s world is she has gone from a shoe in to represent the U.S to a rank outsider. Quoted just last year as saying “one of my biggest dreams is to compete in Rio”, Wie now faces the prospect of watching at home, just like Jason, Dustin, Rory and Jordan.

But here on Team Wiezy we are all about #goodvibesonly so we are shaking off the disappointment and focusing on the 2016 Women’s British Open, held at Woburn Golf Club. A win here and regardless of Rio, Wie will be back on top.

A recent trip to Miami, including a stop-off at the world famous Wynwood Walls should have provided adequate artistic inspiration – let’s see if that translates into sporting form ahead of the trip to the UK.

In this month’s sneaker update we bring you the Gold Chrome X from @nikegolf, we love them. Perhaps it’s the closest Wiezy will get to gold this summer.

Team Wiezy.
