How to create a rule to filter mail from a known sender into a separate folder.

These steps and images are from Outlook 2003. Outlook Express and other versions of Outlook will have similar steps and after viewing this should be easy enough to replicate in whichever email client you are using.
This may seem complicated and lengthy, but I have tried to be exact as possible and show each step. In the time it takes to read one or two steps you can click through all of them once you get the hand of it.
Using this and the How-To on creating subfolders in your inbox can go a long way to helping you to organize your email.

1. Open Outlook to your Inbox. On the menu bar select 'Tools' and 'Rules and Alerts'. If you do not see 'Rules and Alerts' look for a small arrow at the bottom of the Tools menu. Clicking this will expand the menu to display all options and 'Rules and Alerts' will be one of them.
2. A new window like the one pictured below willl appear. Click 'New Rule'.
3. Another window will appear, in Step 1 select 'Move messages with specific words in the subject to a folder'. Click Next
4. In Step 1 check the box next to 'with specific words in the subject'. In Step 2 click 'specific words'.
5. In the new window type the keyword you will use to sort the mail. In this case 'VPAR'. Once you type the word click Add and then Ok. Again in Step 2 click on 'specified' to select the folder you would like the mail moved to.
6. If you have already completed the How-To on creating a folder you will see a folder list like this. Select the VPAR folder and click ok. Click Finish
7. That's it. Make sure there is a check next to the rule you just created to make it active. You can also click on 'Run Rules Now' and it will apply the rule to all the mail in your Inbox. Click Ok and you're done!
